The Miracle Oil: Eucalyptus Oil

Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants. The oils capture the plant's fragrance or essence which is much more potent than the plant itself. Every essential oil have a distinct aroma and its own characteristics and properties. Essential oils are most commonly used in aromatherapy, in which they are inhaled through various methods like steam inhalation or through a diffuser.

Inhaling the aromas from essential oils can stimulate areas of your limbic system, which is a part of your brain that plays a role in emotions, behaviors, sense of smell, and long-term memory . The limbic system also plays a role in controlling several unconscious physiological functions, such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. As such, it is believed that essential oils can exert a physical effect on your body.

Today we will be discussing the excellent healing properties of Eucalyptus essential oil which is nothing less than magic.

Eucalyptus essential oil have been in use for its healing properties in  natural medicine for centuries. It was first used by the Aboriginal people of Australia, who  used it to heal most wounds. Infusions made of eucalyptus leaves were used to treat body aches, common cold and congestion, fever etc.

Benefits Of Eucalyptus Oil:

1. Curing Cough and Cold

Eucalyptus oil has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and expectorant properties. No wonder it has been used to treat cough for centuries. It kills the infection causing bacteria, helps in expelling excess mucus and soothes sore throat when applied topically.

A few drops of Eucalyptus essential oil can be added to about 30 ml of  any carrier oil of choice  and rubbed onto the chest and throat. Because of its antibacterial properties  eucalyptus oil can be used to freshen breath as it fights the germs that causes bad breathe. This is the reason why several mouthwashes and toothpastes contain the essential oil as an active ingredient.

8. Pain reliever

Research have shown that eucalyptus oil eases joint pain and body-ache in general because of its analgesic properties. Specifically why many  over-the- counter  analgesic creams and ointments used to treat arthritis contain this essential oil.
